Presentation Summary:

Are you tired of hearing about self-care practices that seem impossible to implement in both your real life and in the demanding world of law? In this one-hour CLE session, “Order in the Mind: Practical Ways to Manage Stress in the Practice of Law,” we’ll dive into practical, no-nonsense strategies tailored for attorneys who face daily pressures both in and out of the courtroom. Forget bubble baths and breathing exercises—this session focuses on true mind management when you need it the most, and sustainable self-care, helping you find calm and clarity in the midst of chaos.

Drawing from my own experience as a trial attorney for three decades dealing with the intense pressure of heavy caseloads and difficult personalities, I’ll reveal mindset shifts that are both achievable and effective. You’ll learn about managing stress, handling anxiety, and building a mental framework that serves you —without having to become a mindfulness scholar or a practitioner of goat yoga.

Join us to discover how to take control of your mental health in ways that truly work for your demanding schedule and challenging environment. It’s time to redefine what self-care means in the legal field.

She attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she received a B.A. in Government & Politics with a minor in History. She continued her studies at South Texas College of Law, earning her Juris Doctor and admission to the Texas Bar. Following her graduation from law school, Renée proudly served as an Assistant District Attorney in Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office in Ft. Worth, Texas. She prosecuted criminal cases and was lead trial attorney in thirty-one jury trials involving DWIs, reckless driving cases, larceny cases, assaults and domestic violence.

Renée subsequently served as Assistant District Attorney in Suffolk County New York where she conducted many grand jury presentations and prosecuted criminal cases, including investigations and wiretaps involving narcotics trafficking and gangs.

Renée transitioned to private practice and for ten years handled a wide variety of cases including cases in all criminal and civil courts, as well as Family and Supreme Court.

In 2010 Renée accepted the position of Principal Assistant County Attorney in Suffolk County and primarily handled cases of child abuse and neglect as well as juvenile delinquency matters in Family Court. Renée was a frequent lecturer at state wide County Attorney Association of New York programs and published a series of articles around the Raise the Age Legislation for the Suffolk County Bar Association and taught statewide programs on both the legislation and the phased implementation of the law and its impact on the system.

Renée also handled civil litigation matters for the County Attorney’s Office including negligence and wrongful death cases. In 2019 Renée tried the first “red flag law” case in the State of New York and went on to handle both the litigation and administration of these “Extreme Risk Protection Orders” in Suffolk County during the first year of their implementation. Because of her successful handling of these cases, Renée was asked in 2020 to act as counsel to the first woman Suffolk County Police Commissioner, Geraldine Hart. Renée served in this capacity for the entirety of COVID and during police reform initiatives through 2022. Renée taught at the Suffolk County Police Academy as well as various venues in the County before she returned to practice for another two years at the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office Major Crime Bureau and the Child Abuse and Domestic Violence Bureau handling all aspects of felony casework.
